As New York prepares to transition from the NYSITELL/NYSESLAT to WIDA, now is the time to start integrating WIDA into your unit planning. Planning with multilingual learners in mind from the start, not as an afterthought, maximizes support and academic language development. This session walks you through a structured process for using the WIDA Standards Framework to intentionally build the language development of your language learners into your 6-12 units across content areas.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Identify the key components of the WIDA Standards Framework relevant to unit planning
- Apply a step-by-step process for integrating WIDA standards into existing 6-12 units
- Design unit plans that intentionally support multilingual learners’ academic language development
