This workshop will explore how Individualized Language Plans (ILPs) can create more equitable opportunities for MLLs/ELLs, especially those with disabilities and Long-Term MLLs/ELLs. Participants will examine research, policy, and practical frameworks that support ILPs as tools for academic and linguistic success. The session will provide actionable strategies for designing ILPs that prioritize equity and inclusion while addressing systemic barriers to reclassification. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how ILPs can transform institutional practices to better serve multilingual learners.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand how ILPs promote equity and inclusivity for MLLs/ELLs, particularly those with disabilities or long-term classification
- Analyze the legal, policy, and educational frameworks that shape ILP design and implementation
- Apply best practices in co-teaching, assessment, and collaboration to develop effective ILPs for multilingual learners
