In this full day, in-person session, we will explore the different special education classifications as federally defined under IDEA and simulate select exceptionalities to emote fresh experiences and reflections on working with students with disabilities. We will engage in sensory-based, tactile and cognitively challenging activities to simulate just how different we ALL are innately as human beings, thinkers, and learners. Participants will leave this session with an empathetic perspective when considering how to support students with disabilities, common circumstances students may experience in the classroom and how they can respond, and the understanding that we can reach more students, more distinct needs, and most importantly, more people, while not compromising our goals as educators of all students. Participants will walk away with actionable strategies to create more inclusive environments that support the diversity of learners in their classrooms.
