The Science of Reading (SOR) has gained significant attention in recent years, particularly for multilingual learners. A key question remains: “Does the SOR support multilingual children?” In this two-part professional development series, we’ll explore:
(1) the latest research on SOR for multilingual children,
(2) special considerations for SOR-aligned instruction for multilinguals, and
(3) practical, asset-focused strategies to promote biliteracy development.
- By the end of Part 1 of this two-part series*, participants will be able to:
Define the Science of Reading (SOR) and identify at least two common myths about SOR and multilingual children. - Describe current research on SOR for multilingual children and how it differs from monolingual children.
- Implement two effective SOR-aligned reading strategies for multilingual children.
