This session rethinks traditional disciplinary methods for students with disabilities, offering effective alternatives to suspension. We will explore evidence-based strategies that encourage positive behavior, maintain educational continuity, and meet legal standards. Attendees will gain practical, inclusive techniques for addressing misconduct while supporting the unique needs of students with disabilities, promoting a more equitable and supportive school environment.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Learn alternatives to traditional disciplinary methods used in NYC schools.
  • Acquire strategies that promote positive self-regulation, behavior, and relationships in schools.
  • Implement practical methods to address classroom misconduct while attending to the diverse needs of students.
