In this introductory, Part 1 session*, you will learn how to use WIDA tools to shift your instruction toward what multilingual learners/English language learners can do right now at each language proficiency level. You will move beyond scores to identify student strengths using WIDA ACCESS data and the WIDA Can Do Descriptors, and then use those strengths to design more targeted, supportive instruction.
You will leave with practical strategies for differentiating instruction based on MLLs’/ELLs’ language proficiency and clear guidance for creating language goals that build on students’ assets rather than limiting them.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Interpret WIDA ACCESS scores using the WIDA Can Do Descriptors to understand what students can do
- Use student strengths to design differentiated instructional supports and scaffolds
- Develop language goals that are asset-based and aligned to the proficiency levels of multilingual learners/English language learners
