In this two-part series* with national MLL/ELL expert Dr. Holly Porter, participants will explore questions related to language difference vs. disability and what it means to be a multilingual learner who may also have a learning disability. We’ll dive into resources to support identification and referral through an MTSS/RTI process. We will also discuss what schools can do differently for multilingual learners with disabilities including implications for rostering multilingual learners with disabilities, students with disabilities who are not multilingual, and MLLs/ELLs without disabilities into class sections across K-12.
By the end of this two-part series, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish between language-related needs and language-plus-disability needs
- Identify instructional approaches that better support MLLs/ELLs with disabilities
- Make informed decisions about clustering MLLs/ELLs with disabilities in relation to other student groups
Facilitator: Dr. Holly Porter
*Note: Collaborative members will use ONE Trainings/Workshops seat to attend this two-part series on 3/31 and 4/17.
