Our CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) trainings are ONLY available to Enhanced and Premier Collaborative members. As you consider the appropriate staff members to send, please be aware that the physical holds part of the training requires close contact and highly physical interaction.
Part I (Verbal De-Escalation):
Through training in CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI), participants will develop prevention strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or unsafe behavior at the earliest possible stage. Participants will learn how behavior escalates and how to respond appropriately and use the Verbal De-escalation Continuum to address and de-escalate behaviors. This updated course integrates the PBIS framework and demonstrates the connections between NCI’s program and positive behavior support systems in your school. By utilizing discussions, role-plays and activities, attendees will leave the workshop with certification in verbal de-escalation by the Crisis Prevention Institute and strategies to support students and staff in moments of crisis.
Part II (Physical Disengagement)
Through training in CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI), your school’s designated team will develop prevention strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage. Participants will learn how behavior escalates and how to respond appropriately in order to de-escalate. By utilizing discussions, role-plays and activities, attendees will leave the session with certification in verbal de-escalation, physical disengagement skills and physical holding skills by the Crisis Prevention Institute and strategies to support students and staff in moments of crisis.
Note: To earn Blue Card Certification, participants must attend Part I: Verbal De-Escalation and Part II: Physical Disengagement in full and pass the required exam. Anyone arriving after 9:30 a.m. can still participate but will not be eligible for certification.
