This three-part series* guides educators through the Spanish Reading Tapestry, a linguistically authentic framework for teaching reading in Spanish and building meaningful cross-linguistic connections between Spanish and English. Participants will explore key differences between Spanish and English, learn how to design lessons that foster language transfer, and practice applying research-based strategies to real classroom contexts. Each session combines practical tools with collaborative reflection to help teachers confidently support Spanish literacy and bilingual development.
In Part 1, we kick off the series with full day, IN PERSON, in-depth look at the Spanish Reading Tapestry, a framework for teaching reading in Spanish in ways that honor linguistic authenticity. Explore essential differences between Spanish and English and discover how to leverage these contrasts for effective language transfer. Through hands-on activities and practical examples, participants will connect research to daily practice and leave with strategies they can use right away. Join us and take your incorporation of home language supports to the next level for your Spanish-speaking students!
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Analyze the universal aspects of language and those specific to Spanish
- Explain the pedagogy behind the Spanish Reading Tapestry
- Identify methods to facilitate cross-linguistic connections between Spanish and English
