Differentiating for multilingual learners/English language learners isn’t about creating separate supports, but rather building intentional language access and development opportunities into what you’re already teaching. This session explores high-leverage, research-based methods for differentiating by content, process, and product to support students’ language development across proficiency levels and content areas. You’ll have dedicated work time to apply these strategies directly to one of your own lessons before you leave.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Identify high-leverage differentiation strategies that support MLL/ELL language development across proficiency levels
- Apply differentiation by content, process, and product within a lesson in your content area
- Edit an existing lesson to incorporate MLL/ELL instructional supports discussed in the session
Note: The last hour is dedicated to a train-the-trainer format — the facilitator will provide materials, coaching, and planning time to help you bring this content back to your staff. If you’re not planning to turnkey this session, you can plan to leave around 2pm.
