Engineering Written Instruction & Assessments for MLs (Grades 3-12)

October 10 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

- $350

Exams and final projects are equitable when they assess the content taught. However, when tests and long-term assignments become reading and writing assessments about content knowledge, then equity is absent. In other words, when we see MLLs/ELLs struggle on an assessment, we must ask ourselves if we’ve removed all linguistic barriers such that they are able to demonstrate the content that they have mastered. Join MLL/ELL practitioner extraordinaire Tan Huynh in a highly interactive workshop that will explore this essential question and more! After attending this session, participants will leave with additional ways to engineer exams and long-term assignments so that they are accessible and appropriately structured.

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ways to engineer exam questions with an MLL/ELL lens.
  • Describe ways to engineer written instructions for long-term projects with an MLL/ELL lens.
