In this highly interactive session, you will learn how to use visual thinking strategies to increase student engagement, access, and deeper understanding across content areas. You will move beyond simply using visuals in instruction and instead design learning experiences where students actively observe, think, discuss, and represent their thinking in multiple ways.
Through hands-on practice, you will experience how visual inquiry, structured thinking routines, and visual note-taking can support all learners in making meaning, especially when language or traditional text-based tasks are a barrier. You will leave with practical strategies you can immediately use to make student thinking visible and strengthen formative assessment through visual and collaborative approaches.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Facilitate visual inquiry using Project Zero’s Artful Thinking Routines to deepen student observation and discussion
- Use thinking maps to help students organize and connect ideas from visual content
- Apply sketchnoting strategies to support comprehension, engagement, and student expression during learning
