In this virtual preview session designed exclusively for leaders, you will learn how visual thinking strategies can be used across classrooms to increase student engagement, support inquiry-based learning, and make student thinking more visible. In particular, you will get a preview of three high-impact approaches — Project Zero’s Artful Thinking Routines, sketchnoting, and thinking maps — that teachers will learn during the full day, in person session on October 21 and see how each can be applied across content areas to support deeper learning for all students. You will explore how instructional leaders can guide and support teachers in using these practices to strengthen participation, communication, and formative assessment.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Explain the instructional purpose and research foundation of Project Zero’s Artful Thinking Routines
- Identify how visual thinking strategies support engagement, deeper thinking, and inclusive learning environments
- Compare three approaches (thinking routines, sketchnoting, thinking maps) and their classroom applications as formative assessment
- Describe how instructional leaders can support consistent implementation of visual thinking practices across classrooms
