In this two-part series,* nationally renowned MLL/ELL expert Dr. Kate Kinsella equips you with classroom-tested tools and evidence-based routines across two critical areas: interaction and reading fluency. In Part 2, Dr. Kinsella draws on recent research and extensive K–12 classroom practice to introduce evidence-based instructional routines for building reading fluency and vocabulary knowledge. She’ll walk you through a teacher-led protocol followed by accountable peer and independent reading, and show you when and how to apply specific routines beyond text passages, including task directions, writing models, word problems, and response frames, with students at different levels of English proficiency.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Explain the role of reading fluency in text comprehension and academic language development for multilingual learners
- Apply four evidence-based fluency routines with students at different levels of English proficiency
- Prepare text and set up each fluency routine for use across the school day, including task directions, writing models, word problems, and response frames
Facilitator: Dr. Kate Kinsella
