In this two-part series,* nationally renowned MLL/ELL expert Dr. Kate Kinsella equips you with classroom-tested tools and evidence-based routines across two critical areas: interaction and reading fluency. In Part 1, Dr. Kinsella draws on research and extensive classroom experience to equip you with step-by-step guidance and classroom-tested resources for setting up and facilitating lesson interactions that build language learner confidence and competence. Through modeling, video analysis, and practical tools, you’ll explore how to engage reticent multilingual learners in productive partner and whole-class discussions.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Identify the steps for effectively setting up and facilitating a lesson discussion that supports multilingual learner participation
- Integrate active speaking and listening goals and resources into lesson interactions
- Apply reliable techniques for enlisting a range of student contributions in partner and whole-class discussions
Facilitator: Dr. Kate Kinsella
