This workshop explores the rapidly evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and youth mental health within school environments, offering all school staff, including teachers, school social workers, school counselors, school psychologists, administrators, paraprofessionals, and parent coordinators, an accessible overview of how AI is shaping student well-being, behavior, and help-seeking patterns. Participants will examine how AI-enabled tools, apps, and digital ecosystems can both support and challenge mental health outcomes, from early identification and increased access to support, to risks related to harmful online content, algorithmic bias, misinformation, surveillance concerns, and impacts on self-image. The session highlights essential ethical and legal considerations such as privacy, informed consent, FERPA responsibilities, data security, equity concerns, and the potential for misuse, while emphasizing the need for human-centered response. Attendees will explore their role in advocacy and responsible decision-making as AI adoption accelerates in schools and will gain practical guidance on ethically integrating AI-driven tools, including platforms like Wysa and Alongside, to support youth well-being while upholding professional standards and developmentally appropriate care.
