While many schools leverage morning meeting or advisory time to support students’ social-emotional development, there’s so much more practitioners can be doing throughout the rest of the day—especially in ELA classrooms. In this session, participants will explore practical strategies for embedding Social Emotional Learning (SEL) objectives into daily English Language Arts instruction in ways that feel authentic and instructionally meaningful. We will examine practices aligned to the CASEL competencies and discuss how to reinforce emotional literacy alongside language literacy through text selection, discussion structures, and response tasks. We will also consider how this work aligns with the New York State SEL Benchmarks, supporting schools in cultivating students who are not only literate but also empathetic, reflective, and collaborative.
To empower our members in developing inclusive educational environments, each semester we offer multiple weekly sessions, including workshops, legal seminars, panel discussions, and more!
